Staff Profile: Meet Javier

What is your favourite vegetable?
Tomatoes are my favourite vegetable.

What does a typical day working on FoodReach look like for you?
A typical day for me involves coming early in the morning to check the orders because usually Ganzo or Dave or Tammy prepare the orders the day before, and I have to count them to make sure we have the right quantities. After that, I check the paperwork to ensure it’s in order and then I deliver the food to our clients.

What is your favourite part about working on the FoodReach Project?
My favourite part is to give the food to our customers — to see the people, to connect with the people there, because it’s not always the kitchen staff. Many times, we have to interact with the homeless and other groups. So that is my favourite part: seeing and connecting with people.

What do you like most about working with our customers?
I like the happiness that I see in our customers when they receive the food, and I know they are doing good work.

What else do you think FoodReach can do to address food insecurity?
I think FoodReach can get more customers. When I drive downtown, I see many places and people lining up for food. So, if we can secure more non-profit customers who can serve more people, I think that will help FoodReach better address food insecurity.
